I believe as the movie goes on it seems to only follow a few different characters lives. Her husband leaves her because he feels neglected by her and they don’t make this known at all in the book. They don’t really show this part of her life in the book. In the movie they show her living with her husband and doing things with her father.
The movie seems to focus around the life of Erin Gruwell and it follows her life mostly in the movie. The freedom writers book and movie were both different in their own respective ways.
